MySQL Connector/Python is package created to Oracle to access MySQL database using Python. It was introduced in 2012 and since then it has undergone a lot of improvements.
MySQL Connector/Python’s API is compliant with DB API Specification v2.0 PEP 249.
So what is DB-API?
Database API or DB API is simply a standard that advocates the use of common Python API across various database backends. The specification has made it easy to write code that works consistently across variety of database backends, usually requiring a few tweaks here and there.
This means that after learning MySQL Connector/Python you can easily use Psycopg for PostgreSQL, pyodbc for MS-SQL, or any other driver that implements DB-API easily.
In the next lesson, we will learn how to install MySQL Connector/Python.
